My grandson is about as many days as my son in weeks, and my grandson is as many months as I am in years. My grandson, my son and I together are 120 years. Can you tell me my age in years ?

I know the answer, but can you figure it out?

Alexander is stranded on an island covered in forest.
One day, when the wind is blowing from the west, lightning strikes the west end of the island and sets fire to the forest. The fire is very violent, burning everything in its path, and without intervention the fire will burn the whole island, k i l l i n g the man in the process.
There are cliffs around the island, so he cannot jump off.
How can the Alexander survive the fire? (There are no buckets or any other means to put out the fire)

This is one of the hardest ones I've got.

Take 9 from 6, 10 from 9, 50 from 40 and leave 6.
How?

SIX - 9(IX)=S

9(IX)-10(X)=I

40(XL)-50(L)=X

S+I+X=6

that stumped me for a sec but i was doing latin homework XD

You are thunder and your brother is lightning. You can see lightning and hear thunder, and thunder always follows lightning.

Here is one that will give you a headache:

 A mother says to her daughter, "When I was your age, you were only 7. But when you become my age, I will be 88 years old. What is the present age of the mother and that of the daughter?

Let mother's current age =M
Let daughter's current age =D
M - D +7 =D
M + (M - D)=88, solve for D, M

D = 34   and    M=61

 A mother says to her daughter, "When I was your age, you were only 7. But when you become my age, I will be 88 years old. What is the present age of the mother and that of the daughter?

Let D be the daughter's current age

Let M be the mother's current age

Let the difference in their ages be  = y

So   M - D  = y

And when the mother was the daughter's age......there was still a difference  of y  years in their ages and the daughter was 7......so......

D - y  = 7

And when the daughter is her mother's age, the daughter will be D + y years old, but her mother will still be y  years older  and she will be 88

So

D + y + y  = 88   or

D + 2y  = 88

So...we have these three equations

M - D = y   ⇒  D + y  = M

D - y  = 7    ⇒  y = D - 7

D + 2y = 88  ⇒  D + 2(D - 7) =  88   ⇒  3D  - 14  = 88  ⇒ 3D = 102  ⇒ D = 34

And y = D - 7  =  27

D + y  = M  =  61

So....the daughter is 34 and the mother is 61

British Police inspects a room where there are no windows, no doors, no tables and is almost empty expect there is just a puddle of water. They found a dead woman who obviously hung herself from the ceiling, but they are not able to figure out how this had happened.
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson entered the crime scene and easily able to solve the case.
How did the woman die?

She hung herself using ice slabs than the ice melted to form the puddle!

Three Guys at A Hotel Riddle

Three guys rent a hotel room for the night. When they get to the hotel they pay the $30 fee, then go up to their room. Soon the bellhop brings up their bags and gives the lawyers back $5 because the hotel was having a special discount that weekend. So the three lawyers decide to each keep one of the $5 dollars and to give the bellhop a $2 tip. However, when they sat down to tally up their expenses for the weekend the could not explain the following details:

Each one of them had originally paid $10 (towards the initial $30), then each got back $1 which meant that they each paid $9. Then they gave the bellhop a $2 tip. HOWEVER, 3 • $9 + $2 = $29

The guys couldn't figure out what happened to the other dollar. After all, the three paid out $30 but could only account for $29.

There are many ways of explaining/thinking about this riddle. It all boils down to the fact that the lawyers's math is incorrect.

They did NOT spend $9 • 3 + $2.

They spent exactly $27 dollars. $25 for the room and $2 for the tip. Remember they got exactly $3, in total back.

Another way to think about the answer to this riddle is to just pretend that the bellhop refunded $3 to the lawyers (rather than giving them $5 and receiving $2 back).

If the lawyers get $3 back and each takes $1. They they spent exactly $27 dollars.

G = years (Grandpa)
G=Months(Grandson)=G/12
G/12*365 /(365/7)=Son's age in years.
G + G/12 +[G/12*365 /(365/7)] =120, solve for G
G=72 years - Grandpa's age
72 months / 12 = 6 Years - Grandson's age. So that:
120 - 72 - 6 =42 years - son's age. So that:
6 years x 365 days = 42 years x (365/7) weeks
2,190 days - grandson's age  = 2,190 weeks - son's age
