+38 Can people stop posting questions from https://artofproblemsolving.com/ (AOPS)? Like a quarter of the questions on this site are from AOPS and almost all of Mellie's questions are from AOPS. This allows people to cheat on their homework and I don't think this site was meant for cheating.

+434 True, the site wasn't ment for cheating this all depends on how the answerer teaches the concept to the asker. As @pushy said epople come here to learn if they need help which applys to any learning enviroment, Some people don't use APOS and some do. The people can learn from the previous comments that were asked here thats part of the reason we have all the questions asked since the begining of web calcs existence. If this bother's you then when you answer a question try to help the people on here learn over given a direct answer (Which I'm not judging based off your question answering history)
+38 Okay, I was just tryna combat cheating. Melody had made a post about cheating and how this site isn't supposed to be used for cheating.
+434 It's al right combating cheating, frankly we need that here, more people that don't want to facilate cheating which will do more good. Yes melody has and a few others do to seeing user's post entire homework questions. Now not every one does it and the sitings are rarer fortunatly and some user quit doign that and actually started lookng in the text book or listening to the instructor, But still we have had a few incounters so your in the right we just don't want to push it because some people may honestly need help and those that do don't deserve a bad name because other's want to/or facilate cheating and key answers into helping them.
+434 We combat this with having the asker show what they got or how they attempted the problem, and having them interact with the answerer. This shows maturity not all will do this and it's a work in progress with us, but were getting there.

+108 Yes, so as a current AoPS Academy student, I can verify that this website has a TON of AoPS Academy homework questions. The sad thing is, this website is constantly being exploited because the people asking don’t CARE about how to solve the question; they just want the answer. Having taken AoPS classes from PreAlgebra through PreCalculus this year at the first AoPS Academy site, I can personally testify about how the classes are a mental and emotional test. However, that does mean that some students will cheat in order to keep up their good grades for their parents. So yeah, I don’t think that BANNING or completely ignoring these people would be the right solution, but rather giving them hints to solve the problem instead of the answer right off the bat.
+1011 Well what are we supposed to ask? Wer can ask math questions on home work but if you keep posting on the same questions on math on the same topic and process that is considered cheating! But if you ask the same process once or twice that is fine!!!

+38 The hint could be an explanation of how to use a certain formula to solve the problem. For example, when the guest asked for the answer to 164x + 37y = 1, CPhill could've just shown the guest how to use the Euclidean Algorithm instead of giving the guest the answer.

+434 Yes, Chpill did so and it's jsut not him it's pretty mcuh all of us and including me. Now some people have the time to work through the problem others donn't have the ability so in order of showing how to complete the problem I would suggest the asker explains how he/she wound up at there answer or if they don't know how to do the problem entirly then the answerer should only give a helpful hint to guide he/sh through the process.
+434 @ Nickolas: There is no problem with discussing this issue among students moderators are human to just like the rest of us which gives anyone an equal ability to figure out what is best it also helps admin decide the fate of the site to see where regular user's make a stand.
+108 Not necessarily, Nickolas. Someone may answer a problem, but if they don’t figure out the steps and keep them stored in their brain, then it’s useless. That’s why it’s better to show someone the steps to a problem rather than giving them the answer, especially if the person hasn’t attempted it themselves and are just being lazy. Here we go back to the old phrase: If you give a man a fish, you’ll feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, you’ll feed him for a lifetime.

+38 You can't say that with 100% certainty, you need to gather the stats on how many users use the valuable answers provided by this forum to cheat and how many users don't. It might even be that most users DO use the answers provided by this fourm to cheat...

+434 To solve this I would say -
For those that have made the answerer's acknolwege that they are familar with the problem and have proved so by showing there work either ina picture or in text. The answer then can show them the whole problem in one full answer on what they did and where they screwed up.
For those who do not post how they have solved the problem and why they need help, the answere's can assume they are clueless on how to solve the problem therefore indicating that they may not understand the problem may jsut be throwing homework on here to maintain a grade, the answers can ask question's to indicate if this is true or not, if it is true then the answerer should give helpful tip's on how to solve the problem rather than give the full answer.

+434 I beilive we should have that on k****r steve's welcome message and have stuff liek this posted more often for new user's to see. and for those who do not reply to answer's should for when they don't show how they solved the problem should risk being liable to not having there question answered at all.
+434 There is actually a terms of service menu and a bunch of others(I haven't read them all) but a user known as k****r steve post's a welcome message to the site that points out rules and why to become a member.
