Pat starts with two identical square pieces of paper. On the first one, she draws straight lines that divide the paper into a 3-by-3 grid of squares. The total length of the lines she draws is 18 cm.

On the second piece of paper, Pat draws straight lines that divide the paper into a 6-by-6 grid of squares.

What is the total length of the lines that Pat draws on the second piece of paper?

Please help me, thanks in advance.

Continuing the pattern from the 3 by 3 piece of paper, you get that the total length is 36 for a 6 by 6 piece of paper.

I'm not Phill or Melody, but I think that I can help you. laugh

First, I'm gonna correct your question:

"The total length of the lines she draws is 180 cm."     (NOT 18 cm)

On the second piece of paper, Pat drew only 4 lines, and each line was 18 cm long. smiley

Just as Jugoslav pointed out, there's a mistake in this question; namely, instead of 18 cm, should be 180 cm!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The total length of the lines in the 1st square is 180 cm.
The total length of the lines in the second square is 72 cm.
