have a recipe that calls for $12$ ounces of butter. Unfortunately, I only have a teaspoon to measure my butter. A tablespoon holds $\frac12$ ounce of butter, and there are $3$ teaspoons in a tablespoon. How many teaspoons of butter do I need for my recipe?

you need 12 oz butter:

1 tbsp = 3 tsp

1 tbsp = 1/12 (\frac12 i guess?) oz butter

multipply 1/12  equation by 144 to get 12 oz butter so

144 tbsp = 12 oz butter

multiply 144 by 3 bc 1 tbsp = 3 tsp so

144 tbsp = 432 tsp

teaspoon = tsp

tablespoon= tbsp

oz = ounce

12 oz butter

1 Tsp  = 1/2 oz butter

3 tsp  = 1 Tsp

So  we have

                             1 Tsp                           3 tsp

12 oz  butter   x  _____________ x   ___________

                            1/2 oz butter                1Tsp

Cancel units and we get  that

12  x     1  / 1/2     x    3   tsp   =

12  x  2    x  3    tsp   =

12 x  6   tsp  =

72 teaspoons
