Let \(x = \cfrac{1}{1 + \cfrac{1}{2 + \cfrac{1}{1 + \cfrac{1}{2 + \dotsb}}}}\)

 

Then x = 1/(x + 1) ==> x^2 + x - 1 = 0 ==> x = (sqrt(5) - 1)/2
