The MATHCOUNTS International Airport had 738,114 departures in 2001. If these were distributed uniformly throughout each 24-hour period, what is the mean number of seconds between each departure time? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.

The question is strangely worded!

In 2001 there were 738,114 departures.

2001 = 365 days(not a leap year)

738,114 / 365 =~2,022 departures per day

2,022 / 24 =~ 84 departures per hour

1 hour = 3,600 seconds

3,600 / 84 = ~43 seconds - mean number of seconds between departure time.
