Find a linear inequality with the following solution set. Each grid line represents one unit.
Give your answer in "standard form".
Notice that the points (2, -5) and (4, -3) are on the dashed line
The slope through these points is [ -3 - -5 ] / [ 4 - 2 ] = [ 2] /[2] = 1
Using the point (2, -5) we have the following possible inequaliites :
y < 1 ( x - 2) - 5 or y > 1 ( x - 2) - 5
y < x - 2 - 5 y > x - 2 - 5
y < x - 7 y > x - 7
Since the point (x, y) = (0,0) is in the shaded region
0 < 0 - 7 or y > 0 - 7
0 < - 7 y > -7
The second iinequality is true......so....the equation is
y > x - 7
- x + y > - 7 multiply through by -1 and reverse the inequality sign
x - y < 7
