I have a spinner that lands on 1 with a probability of 1/10 , 2 with a probability of 2/10 , 3 with a probability of 3/10 , and 4 with a probability of 4/10 . If Phil and Sarah both spin the spinner, what is the probability that they get the same number?

Probability that they both spin a "1" =  (1/10)(1/10)  = 1/100

Probability that they both spin a "2" =  (2/10)(2/10)  = 4/100

Probability that they botrh spin a "3"  = (3/10)(3/10)  =  9/100

Probability that they both spin  a "4" = (4/10)(4/10)  = 16/100

Summing these.....the total probability  is  [1 + 4 + 9 + 16] / 100  =  30 / 100  =  3 / 10
