Is this statement true or false?

When converting to standard notation, a negative exponent means the decimal point should move to the left.

A. true

B. false

False.

a negative exponent does this:     x-3   =  1/x3

...and that is the same as moving the decimal point to the bloody left.  W T F

Hmmmmm....    does  2^-3    = .002?

The question doesn't say from WHAT you are converting to STANDARD notation.....if you are converting from SCIENTIFIC NOTATION the statement would be TRUE.....but it does not say that, so that is why I said it was false.

I suppose, noting that mos of your recent questions are pertaining to scientific notation , that this would be true....

Most of your recent questions have been    of the form    5.28 x 10^-3     (scientific notation questions)....so YES, the negative exponent would move the decimal point ot the LEFT      5.28 x 10^-3    WOULD equal  .00528       TRUE

Sorry for confusing you if I did (the question is unclear/incomplete ....not your fault!)

Maybe the proctor/teacher likes to play “Simon Says.” Simon didn’t say you were converting from a base other than 10, so you are wrong.

It’s a great way to take smart students down a peg and to elicit a string of curses.

I assume that you want to convert from scientific notation to standard notation

So....for instance

3.2  x 10-2     =       .032

So.....we move the exponent to the left

cool cool cool
