Let $a$ and $b$ be the roots of the equation $x^2-mx+2=0.$ Suppose that $a+(1/b)$ and $b+(1/a)$ are the roots of the equation $x^2-px+q=0.$

The product  of  the roots in the first equation  = 2

So   ab   = 2

And  

(a  + 1/b)  =  [ ab + 1 ] / b

(b + 1/a)   = [ ab + 1 ] / a

And  the  product of these  roots   = q

So

[ ab + 1 ]  [ ab + 1]                     [2 + 1 ]  [ 2 + 1]
