The hypotenuse of an isosceles right triangle is 14sqrt2. What is the area of the triangle?

Because the triangle is a right triangle, and the sides are equal, you can tell that:

If the leg(s) = x

x*sqrt(2)=hypotenuse

I think it is very easy to solve from here.

S = Side

Using Pythagoras's Theorem:

[14sqrt(2)]^2 =2S^2, solve for S

S = 14

Area =1/2 x 14 x 14 = 98 units^2
