A customer wants to buy 60 flowering plants. He wants 1/2 of them to be marigolds. He wants 1/3 of them to be pansies, and 1/4 of them to be petunias.

How many of each type of flowering plant will he buy?

The numbers do not add up.....      1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 = 13/12       which is greater than 1 whole .....

the approximate numers of each would be

      60 * 1/2 = 30 marigolds

      60 * 1/3 = 20 pansies

60 * 1/4 = 15 petunias      ( which adds to 65 plants  because the fractions add to more than one)
