6=-4+5y     subtract 4 from both sides of the equation

2 = 5y         divide both sides by 5

2/5 = y

this is a bit easier

5 + 2u = -1
                  subtract 5 on both sides
2u = -6
                  divide 2 on both sides
u = -6/2
                  divide
u = -3

Guest, you were soooo close!!!!

so..... let me explain

6 = -4 + 5y
                      add for on both sides
10 = 5y
                     divide 5 on both sides
10/5 = y
                    divide
2 = y

Hey there, PD6200!

So, I'll walk you step-by-step through this.

Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

\(6=5y−4\)

Step 2: Flip the equation.

\(5y−4=6\)

Step 3: Add 4 to both sides.

\(5y−4+4=6+4\)

\(5y=10\)

Step 4: Divide both sides by 5.

\(\frac{5y}{5}\)\(=\frac{10}{5}\)

\(y=2\)

And there you have it, 2 is your answer.

Hope this helped! :)
