This forum is great. I've been using it for quite a while now and I've greatly enjoyed it. However, there are a few concerns I would like to bring up.

1. People who just post random questions and answer it themselves to farm upvotes. A good score has no meaning if you don't earn it.

2. People who answer a question wrong on purpose. When trying to give answers, people should try their best and not just respond with an incorrect answer to mess others up.

3. Providing no solution. The point of the forum is not just for people to ask questions but to learn. Even if the answer was correct, it defeats the purpose of asking it in the first place.

4. Cheaters. If in an AOPS class, lots of people dump their homework and try to get us to answer it.

Is there any way we can deal with these type of people? Can we do anything against it?

Note: They aren't necessarily farming upvotes, because there is also a downvote feature for not-so-great posts.

Also, Web 2.0 Calc is for posting problems, regardless of where it comes from. The point here is to learn, not to cheat. How can you assume that they're cheating ? How do you know that they haven't gotten it wrong, and just want an explanation in general?

You can't just assume things like this, it isn't fair to the other users.

Also, while wrong answers are pesky, they are encouraged in many ways! Then, when the actual solution is posted, the wrong answerer and the person who asked the question get to understand the concept !

Firstly AvenJon I would like to welcome you to the forum.  I know you have answered a lot of question but you have only been here for a month :)

 I have some responses.

1. If people post questions that they find a bit difficult and then answer them themselves they are reinforcing their own learning so I do not have a problem with this.  Learning is more fun if you can give yourself a point.  wink

2. Wrong answers are annoying but I would not like all the answers to be correct either.  Askers have a responsibility to decide for themselves if the answer should be accepted or not.

3. Yes, answers without solutions should not be here.  Then again students often do not learn from full solutions either.  Half-done solutions are usually best but if people choose to half do a question they should know how to finish it.  All too often people give 'hints' when they are incapable of doing the question for themselves.  I think that this behavior is super rude.

4. Aops questions are banned, or at the very least, discouraged. But I am surprised at you saying this as I just saw you answer an undisguised Aops question.  I have blocked that question and answer from sight but I know the asker, MathSolverForLyfe has already seen your response. [which, now I look again, was never intended to be too helpful anyway  ;) ]

Thanks Melody. Is there a way to tell if the question is from aops? Often I can't unless there's a lot of rather similar questions together.

I have sent you a private message.

Certainly if AoPS is written into the question or into a link address then it is an AoPS question.

There are other more subtle ways to tell as well.
