slope   =   [difference in  y  values] / [difference in  x  values]

 

2   =   [k - 3] / [5 - 1]

 

2   =   [k - 3] / 4

                               Multiply both sides of the equation by  4 .

8   =   k - 3

                               Add  3  to both sides of the equation.

11   =   k
