When she enters the water, f(x) = 0.

0 = -4.9t² + 4t + 10

Solve for t by using the quadratic formula:  t =  [ -4 ± √(4² - 4 · -4.9 · 10) ] / [2 · -4.9 ]    --->  t = 1.89 sec.
