If AT&T pffered a plan that costs $25 monthly and $0.10 for each text message sent, and Verizon offered a plan that costs $1.35 per text message, for how many text messages would both companies charge the same amount?

Let  x = number of text messages:

ATT plan:       25.00 + 0.10·x

Verizon plan:  1.35·x

To calculate when they will be the same:    25.00 + 0.10x  =  1.35x

Subtract 0.10x from both sides:                          25.00  =  1.25x

Divide both sides by 1.25:                                       20  =  x

For 20 text messages:  ATT cost =  25.00 + 0.10·20  =  25.00 + 2.00  =  27.00

                            Verizon cost =  1.35·20  =  27.00
