The point-slope form of the equation of a line is y − y1 = m(x − x1), where m is the slope and (x1, y1) is a point on the line. Write the equation of the line in point-slope form perpendicular to the graph of

y = 1   x - 9

     2                passing through the point  (8, 3).

The slope of the given line = 1/2

A perpendicular line to this has a negative reciprocal slope  =  -2/1  = -2

So....the equation is

(y - 3)  = -2 ( x - 8)
