You want to use square tiles to cover the top of a table you're making. The top is 30 inches by 18 inches. What is the side measure of the largest-sized square tile you can use to cover the tabletop without any overlap or cutting?

round to the nearest tenth please

well, !'m not good at explaining but you need to find the GCF of the numbers

30

1.2, 3, 5, 6, 10,16, 30

18

1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18

So, all i did was write out the factors and found the GCF

Answer: 6in

Here's another way to see this

Let the side of the tile = x

Then the number of tiles that will cover the 30 inch dimension is  30/x

And the number of tiles that will cover the 18 inch dimension is  18/x

And we want x to be as large as possible

So....the GCF of  18, 30   =  6 inch   tile....just as DBZ found  !!!!
