First, put everything in improper fraction...
1-1/2 = 3/2...so...
$${\frac{{\mathtt{4}}}{{\mathtt{9}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{3}}}{{\mathtt{2}}}}$$
Find the common denominator (which is 18)... and then find the numerators...
$${\frac{{\mathtt{4}}}{{\mathtt{9}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{3}}}{{\mathtt{2}}}} = {\frac{{\mathtt{8}}}{{\mathtt{18}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{27}}}{{\mathtt{18}}}}$$
Then you subtract the numerators (8 - 27)...
$${\frac{{\mathtt{8}}}{{\mathtt{18}}}}{\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{27}}}{{\mathtt{18}}}} = {\mathtt{\,-\,}}{\frac{{\mathtt{19}}}{{\mathtt{18}}}}$$
Hope this helps...
