Divide (12.4 x 10²) by (3.1 x 10^-3):

---> (12.4 x 10²) ÷ (3.1 x 10^-3) = (12.4/3.1) x (10² ÷ 10^-3)

---> To divide numbers that have the same base, subtract their exponents)

---> (12.4/3.1) x (10² ÷ 10^-3) = (12.4/3.1) x (10^{2 --3}) = (12.4/3.1) x (10⁵) = ... the answer
