I figured out the flaw in this problem after looking it up on a website.

The equation they have here is a bit different, but it's the same concept.

https://www.math.toronto.edu/mathnet/falseProofs/first1eq2.html

Click on "Step 8" to read why this step has a flaw in it.

Basically, you can't simplify

2(a-b) = 1(a-b)

to

2 = 1

because a = b

so a - b = 0

2(0) = 1(0)

so..

0 = 0

Hope this makes sence, it actually took me a little bit of thinking to understand it myself. :)

To beat you teacher in maths ull have to study that level of maths that your teacher also doesnt know and also study those too very nicely that the teacher also doesnt know!

So all this can just be done when your grown so now forget to beat your teacher and remember to learn from your teacher because now this is only going to help you and nothing else!

Hope ive been a good adviser to you!LOL!

Rosala has a point. It's never necessarily good to "beat" your teacher.

Here's something you can use to "trick" your teacher though. Maybe see if they can find the fault in this!

Well, I do know what this means....your basically just manipulating the equation algebraically...

It all seems legit, but there has to be an error somewhere, because 2 ≠ 1.

I'm not quite sure, maybe someone else on the forum has an explanation for this problem.
