Is this meant to be a quadratic equation that you are supposed to solve by using the quadratic formula?

If so:  4x¹ - 24 x - 35 = 0

Quadratic Formula:  x  =  [ -b ±√( b² - 4·a·c ) ] / ( 2·a )

In this problem,  a = 4,   b = -24,   and  c = -35.

--->    x  =  [ --24 ± √( (-24)² - 4·4·(-35) ) ] / ( 2·4 )

--->   x  =  [ 24 ± √( 576 + 560 ) ] / ( 8 )

--->   x  =  [ 24 ± √( 1136 ) ] / ( 8 )

--->   x  =  [ 24 ± 4√(71) ] / ( 8 )

--->   x  =  3 ± √(71)/2

4x-24x=-20x

-20x-35=0

-20x=35

35/(-20)=x

x=-1.75
