the numbers are?

I'm actually in the process of learning algebra.

I know how to solve a lot of these problems.....explaining my work is the hard part.  I get used to all these problems that I do them naturally without thinking too hard,  then I don't realize how I did it.

Well 24+24=48  So that is how I'll start.  There is no difference between these.

25+23=48, but the difference is only 2

26+22=48, but the difference is only 4

27+21=48,  and the difference is 8

So, the numbers are 27 and 21 

Let x be the first number and y be the second number....so we have

x + y = 48

x - y  =   6 

add the equations

2x = 54           

divide by 2 on both sides

x = 27

And  27 - y = 6  →  y = [ 27 - 6 ] = 21

So x = 27 and y = 21

Sometimes (more like most times)  I have NO clue where you get your answers from........but then again, im in sixth so I'll have to learn

Haha!  I just see a and a bunch of numbers and equal signs....so I pretty much just look at your outcome....LOL!

Happy7, have you taken Algebra yet???

If not, when you take it, you will see how to solve many of these problems without having to "guess and check.'  I actually admire your ability to use logical reasonng to figure out some of these answers !!!
