What does the x-intercept represent?  It is the point (or points) where the graph crosses the x-axis.

What can it be used for?  It represents the answers to the associated equation.

 For example, the line  y = 3x - 6 has its x-intercept at (2,0) And if you were asked to solve the equation        3x - 6 = 0, the answer would be x = 2.
