Let  n  =  50.8383838383838 ...

Since the number of digits that repeat is two multiply the both sides by 100 and subtract the original equation from the new equation:

   100 n  =  5083.838383838383 ...

      -   n  =     50.838383838383 ...

   -------  =  ---------------------------

     99 n  =  5033                      (Everything after the decimal point subtracts out.)

-->    n  =  5033/99

If only one digit repeated, multiply by 10; if three digits repeated, multiply by 1000; etc.
