8/3=7p/4-(-9p-4+4/3)    distribute the "-" outside the parentheses over the terms inside...we have....

8/3 = (7/4)p + 9p + 4 - 4/3       combine like terms

8/3 = (43/4)p + 8/3           subtract 8/3 from both sides

0 = (43/4)p                   multiply both sides by (4/43)

0 = p

-(-9p - 4 + 4/3)  can be simplified to:  + p + 4 - 4/3

The problem now is:  8/3  =  7p/4  + p + 4 - 4/3

To get rid of fractions, multiply each term by 12, the lowest common denominator:

                32  =  21p + 12p + 48 - 16

Simplify:   32  =  33p + 32

Subtract  32  from both sides:

                 0  =  33p

                 p  =  0
