The sum of two numbers is 48. The difference of the same two numbers is 24. What are the numbers?
x + y = 48
x - y = 24 add these together and we have
2x = 72 divide both sides by 2
x = 36
And using x + y = 48 ... 36 + y = 48 ....so, it's obvious that y = 12
And those are the two numbers
12 and 36.
36+12=48
36-12=24.
