This is very confusing and in my opinion is is very bad notation but

If I enter   10000e^-2.835 into the web2.0calc this is what I get.

$${\mathtt{10\,000}}{\mathtt{\,\times\,}}{{\mathtt{e}}}^{-{\mathtt{2.835}}} = {\mathtt{587.185\: \!258\: \!338\: \!722\: \!9}}$$

But if i enter this  10000e-2.835     Without the ^ lets see what happens.

Nothing - NO on this site calc I cannot bring it up as anything other than what it is here.

On many calculators you use the EXP button to bring up 10 to the power of.

And according to the other mathematician some calculators drop the XP and just use E to mean 10^

Ater looking at this again, I don't know what buttons I pushed on the calculator, but it's definitely NOT some decimal between  0 and 1 !!!

That is true Alan but what I was experimenting with is how this web2.0calc would interpret 

10000e-2.835

So I plugged it in and this is what I got.  So the web2 calc does not interpret it this way.

The calculator on the Home page gives something slightly different:

It interprets the first part (up to and including the 2) as computerese for 1.0*10^-2 and then gets stuck because it expects an operator before the decimal point!
