Is (1, -3) a solution of y = -2x – 1

Help. How can I work this out to find the answer? Thanks

y  =  -2x - 1

Replace the 'x' with a '1':  y  =  -2(1) - 1  =  -2 - 1  =  -3. 

This is the value that you wanted for y, so yes, it is a solution!
