"This is 5 times as much caffeine as in a 12 oz caffeinated soft drink"

"This" refers to the 184 mg of caffeine and so, in the equation, 184 will replace "this."

"is" is a verb and will be replace by an equal sign.

"5" remains 5.

"times" will be replaced by "·".

"as much ... drink" will be replaced by d.

184 = 5·d
