what is the square root of -7??

I f you are at school you probably have only heard of 'real' numbers

You cannot find the square root of a negative number in the real number system - there is no real solution.

Nlothing multiplied by itself will be negative.    

 

Geno's answer is correct in the imaginary number system.

√-7  =  √-1 x √7

Rewriting  √-1  as i:

        = i √7
