Why is 3.14 pi?

3.14 is equal to pi because whenever you divide a circle's circumfrence by it's diameter it is always equal to a number that is close to 3.14

It isn't! It's a short approximation to pi, which has an infinite decimal expansion.  Here are a few more decimals:

$${\mathtt{\pi}} = {\mathtt{3.141\: \!592\: \!653\: \!589\: \!793\: \!2}}$$

All fractions can be written as terminating or recurring decimals.

Any number that can be written as a fraction,   $$\frac{p}{q}$$   , is a rational number.

$$\pi$$  is an IRRATIONAL NUMBER.  This means it cannot be written exactly as a fraction or as a terminating or as a recurring decimal.  The numbers just keep going forever and they never form a pattern!
