If you factor  x² + 3x + 2  =  0

you get:       (x + 2)(x+ 1)  =  0

This means that either     x + 2  =  0     or     x + 1  =  0

                                           x  =  -2                  x  =  -1

Thee are the two values that solve the equation.

Check:  (-2)² + 3(-2) + 2  =  4 - 6 + 2  =  0   It checks!

            (-1)² + 3(-1) + 2  =  1 - 3 + 2  =  0   It checks!
