(z^5)^3   =   z^15

If you have an exponent to an exponent, mutiply the exponents together.

You can think of it this way, you have 3 groups and there are 5 in each group, so you have 3 x 5  =  15.

Since  z^5  =  z·z·z·z·z,

     (z^5)^3  =  (z·z·z·z·z)^3  =  (z·z·z·z·z)·(z·z·z·z·z)·(z·z·z·z·z)  =  z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z·z  =  z^15
