15 students in math

8 + 15 = 23

23 - 3 who recieved both = 20 people who recieved an A

Knowing that 20 people recieved an A in history and/or math. How many students did not recieve an A in either course?

(Hint: It's 2 second mental-math)

Read my answer to the fullest extent please. 

70 + 95 = 165

150 students do music.

So 165 - 150 = 15 students do both band and chorus.

Please don't just provide an answer without showing your work. I recommend not using brute force as a method too.

Leg a = \(a\)

Leg b = \(b\)

By perimeter:

\(a + b+37=84\)

\(a+b=47\)

By Pythagorean Theorem:

\(a^2+b^2=37^2\)

Substitution:
\(a^2+(47-a)^2=37^2\)

Solving:

a^2+(47-a)^2=37^2 = {a=12, a=35}

a = 12

b = 35

or

a = 35

b = 12

OOPS, mistake fixed!

Goal:

Solving:

Number of terms = 45.5 - 1.5 + 1 = 45

ceiling (45/11) = 12

Why:

3 - 1 + 1 = 3
