You can put this straight into the on-site calculator......it wwill even "reduce" it for you !!!

OK......let's multiply the second equation by -1 all the way through...so we have....

  -[ y = -(1/4)x -3 ]  →  -y = (1/4)x +3

Now add this equation to the first one......so we have

  y = (1/2)x +3

-y = (1/4)x +3

-------------------

0 = (3/4)x + 6

Subtract 6 from both sides

-6 = (3/4)x     multiply both sides  by 4/3

-24/3 = x = -8

Now......just replace this value in one of the equations to get "y"...I''ll use the ffirst one...

y = -(1/2)(-8) + 3

y = -4 + 3

y = -1

And there's the solution !!!

You can put this into the onsite calculator....However here's a method that works well when we have two fractions that have "1" as numerators:

Write the second denominator first, then write the sign between the fractions, and then write the first denominator.

So we have ....  30 - 7  = 23

Multiply both denominators   30 * 7 = 210

Put the first result over the second.........

23/210

And there's your answer......note....we might have to reduce this if the denominators have common factors, but that's not the case here.

This is the same thing as   1 / √64.......so we have.......

1/8

And that's it !!
