(x + 4)  +  ( 7 - x)   =   (2x  - 1)

11    =     2x  - 1

12    =  2x

x =  6

So

x +  1/x  = 3        multiply through  by   x

x^2  + 1  =   3x

x^2  - 3x    =   -1             complete the  square on x

x^2  - 3x  + 9/4  =  -1  +  9/4

(x - 3/2)^2   =  5/4         take both roots

x - 3/2  =  -sqrt (5/4)           or       x   - 3/2  = sqrt (5/4)

x  - 3/2  =   -sqrt (5) / 2                    or       x  - 3/2  =  sqrt (5) /2

x =    (3 -sqrt (5)) / 2                                   x =  (3 + sqrt (5) ) / 2

a   =  3         b = 1        c = 5      d = 2

Since  f(0)  = 4.....then....

c =  4

f(1) =  -10  implies  that

a  +  b   +  4  =  -10

a + b  =   -14

But  a  = `1

So b =  -15

f (x)  = x^2  - 15x   + 4

2x + 7  =  -5                        -x^2  - x  +  2  = -5

2x  =  -5 - 7                          x^2  + x  - 2  =  5

2x  = -12                              x^2  + x    =   7         complete  the  square on x

x = -6                                    x^2  + x + 1/4  = 7 + 1/4

                                             (x + 1/2)^2  =  29/4         take  the positive root

                                               x + 1/2  =   sqrt (29)/2

                                               x =  (1 + sqrt (29) )   /2

Sum =    -6   +   (1 + sqrt 29) / 2  =    (-11 + sqrt 29)   / 2
