A function is the type of relation that every x-value has only one y-value paired with it.

In  y = x², for every value of x, there is only one value for y. For instance, when x = 2, y = 4, when x = 5, y = 25, etc. No matter what x-value we choose, there is only one y-value for an answer.

However, in the equation x = y², there are values for x that have two y-numbers paired with it. For example, when x = 4, y can be either +2 or -2; same when x = 9, y can be either +2 or -2; etc. Thereore, this is not a function because there are x-values that have two y-values for an answer.

If you have a problem like:  4  =  x / 8

multiply both sides by 8:    4 x 8  =  x    --->  32  =  x

If there is a set of chapter review exercises, do them.

If you have your assignments for the chapter, go over these problems; the test probably consists of problems just like the ones assigned.

The formula for the circumferende of a circle is:  C = π·d

At the outer edge:  C  =  π·d   =  π·12  =  12π cm

A point on the outer edge travels 12π cm each revolutions, so, in 100 revolutions,  it travels

     100 times 12π = 1200π cm;        so its speed is 1200π cm/min

If you want, you can turn this into a decimal equivalent.

To find the speed at the inner edge, replace the 12 with 1.5.

Do what is inside parentheses first (absolute value bars are specialized parentheses):

=  - | -3 |           Since  | -3 |  =  3:

=  - (3)

=  - 3

First, find the slope of the line:    m  =  (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)

x1 = 1     y1 = 4     x2 = 1     y2 = 2          --->     m  =  (2 - 4) / (1 - 1)  =  -2 / 0   <--- undefinded.

Looking at the graph of these two points, they lie in a vertical line.

The equation of a vertical line is  x  =  a, so the equation of this line is x = 1.

You wrote that the shadow ws "14 feet inches".

Is it just feet, or just inches, or 14 feet and some number of inches?

If 14 feet, from the angle: the adjacent side is 14 feet and the height is the opposite side.

Since tan = opp / adj, use tangent:  tan(67)  =  x / 14   --->   x  =  14 · tan(67)  =  33.0 feet

The distance between two points is found by subtracting the beginning point from the ending point.

6.8 - -2.4  =  9.2

(3/5) of 9.2  =  (3/5) x 9.2  =  5.52

This distance must be added to the beginning piont:  -2.4 + 5.52  =  3.12  <--- 

I don't understand  ^6 + 2/2.

The distance formula is:  √[ (x2 - x1)² + (y2 - y1)² ]
