-3{[(-4-1)-(-6^0-2)-1]-1}±Sqrt(9)
So you know the whole order of operations thing, right? PEMDAS
Parentheses
Exponents
Multiply
Divide
Add
Subtract
So start with the numbers in the parentheses:
(-4-1)= -5
(-6^0-2)= -1
this is because anything to the power of 0 equals 1.
Next, do the brackets, which are now simplified to:
[-5-(-1) -1]
= -5 + 1-1
= - 5
Now do the curly brackets:
{-5 - 1}
=-6
Then multiply it by -3
=18
The square root of 9 is + or - 3, so it would be:
18±3
=15 or 21

5x+3y=16
Are you writing the equation for y, or graphing the intercepts?
1) Equation for y:
Subtract 5x from both sides.
3y=-5x+16
then divide by 3.
y=-5/3x + 16/3
2) Finding x- and y- intercepts:
For the x-intercept, you would make y=0.
So:
5x=16
Solve for x.
x=16/5 or 3.2
The x-intercept would then be (3.2, 0)
And for the y-intercept, you would make x=0.
so 3y=16
Solve for y=

3p+1=1
I'm guessing this is your equation?
First isolate the variable by subtracting 1.
3p = 2
Then divide both sides by 3 to get p=

Hi guest,
Thank you for answering; it's great when people help out:)
However, there is one little detail I think you missed.
120 is the cost of
both
the coat and dress, so there would be 4x, not 3x.
But good job explaining why it is less than/ equal to 120.

45:9.6 as simplified ratio
So first make 9.6 a whole number.
The easiest way is to multiply by 10.
The ratio is now:
450:96
Their GCF is 6, so divide both sides by 6.
The simplified ratio is now 75:16.

6 is the short leg and
y
is the hypotenuse. Special right triangles
30 60 90 triangle
*I changed the variable for the hypotenuse to make it less confusing:)
So the side lengths for any 30 60 90 degree triangle is:
short leg: x
long leg: x√3
hypotenuse: 2x
If the short leg x is 6, the hypotenuse would be 2x, or 2(6)

Mrs. Scott decided that she would spend no more than $120 to buy a coat and a dress. If the price of the coat was $20 more than 3 times the price of the dress, find the highest possible price of the dress.
The price of the coat could be x, and the price of the dress could be y.
Then, find a system of inequalities.
x + y < or equal to 120
and
x = 20 + 3y
You can now use the substitution method to first find y.
(20 + 3y) + y < or equal to 120
20 + 4y < or equal to 120
subtract 20 from both sides.
4y< or equal to 100
divide by 4.
So y < or equal to 25. You can plug it back into the equations to check:)
