Let's look at a GP

$$The first term is $a_1$\\
The second term is $a_1*r$\\
The third term is the second term *r = $a_1*r*r = ar^2$\\
The forth term is the third term *r = $a_1r^2*r = ar^3$\\
following the pattern,
The twenieth term is going to be $ a_1r^{19}$\\
and\\
The nth term is going to be $ a_1r^{n-1}$\\\\

If you multiply both sides by 6 you will get rid of all the fractions and it will be easier.

Like this

6(2/3x-8)=6(5/6x+1)

v/8000 + (v-4)/6000 + (v-11)/4000

the lowest common denominator is 24000.  

Make each of them an equivalent fraction over 24000 and add.

1.03x-4=-2.15x+8.72

add 2.15x to both sides and simplify

Add 4 to both sides

The divide both sides by the number that is in front of the x.
