Sorry Dragon I didn't see your last post when I posted mine - Does that make sense?

Question 1) I really need to know how to make a graph in @@LaTex, but I can't figure out how to make one. Can somebody help me out please?

I don't think that you can - you can make a table but not a graph.  What did you want to graph and I will tell you how we would do it?

Question 2) Why do I have to use $$, \begindocument, and \enddocument in @@LaTex? Please help me. Thanks.

I explained $$ in my last post.  It allows you to escape maths mode which is the default mode for the forum.  Look at my last post there is a lot more info there.

You do not need to use \begin{document} or \end{document} in the forum.

I think that you may have seen Alan use this? Alan writes his LaTex on his own computer in a program that he downloaded called Texmaker.  This is where we both learned LaTex.  He then copies the whole thing straight onto the forum.  If you use Texmaker then you have to enter begin document etc or it won't work.  In the forum that has already been done for you.  So I think that these lines do nothing at all when you use LaTex in the forum.

Hey, Dragon, I continue to be very impressed with your LaTex  ,  I think that I will give you thumbs up but it is for your LaTex not for your answer to the troll question.

EDIT: I just realised that you did use the \mbox function.  mbox stands for message box.  If you are in a mbox then you do not need to use \; to separate your words!  Just leave them out.  You only need to use \; to separate words is you are in math mode and you are not in math mode if you are in a mbox!

I also want to show you some other ways that you could have written this:

The first one I learned recently off Alan.  LaTex has 2 main modes. Normal and Math modes.  The forum is automatically set to math mode. This means that when we write a word the program thinks that you are just entering a string of pronumerals (letters) and it thinks the gaps mean nothing so it ignores them.  If you want the LaTex to recognise that you are NOT entering math then you can turn math mode off by entering $$ then it 'understands' that gaps etc mean something.  

When you want to enter a math thing you have to tell the program to turn the math mode back on again.  You do this by putting a $ one either side of it like $5+3=8$

If you have a lot of writing and a little bit of maths then this is a really nice way of doing it in LaTex 

$$ You are finding how much marbles he gave to Tom and Lily\\

$5+3=8$\\ Now subtract etc etc\\ $12-8=4$\\ etc

$$You are finding how much marbles he gave to Tom and Lily\\
$5+3=8$\\
Now subtract etc etc\\
$12-8=4$\\
etc$$

Do you understand all that Dragon?     

Let's consider square root of 2

$${\sqrt{{\mathtt{2}}}} = {\mathtt{1.414\: \!213\: \!562\: \!373\: \!095}}$$

so how do I change 1.4142135623730951 back to square root 2.  I think that is your question.

WELL that number is not square root 2 it is an approximation of it. I would need all the digits to be able to go backwards! 

Mmm.  This creates a problem.  You see square root 2 is an irrational number which means it can not be expressed exactly as a fraction (p/q) This means it cannot be expressed as a terminating or recurring decimal either. So we cannot know all the digits.

Hence it would be impossible for an approximation to be expressed as a surd.  There would always be some number (a rational one) that would be exact.

Does that make sense?
