I guess I forgot to answer your question:  Why?

If you multiplied both the numerator and the denominator of the fraction by 100,

the numerator becomes  360         and the denominator becomes  9.

Now, you have 360 ÷ 9, which is 40.

(4.8 x (-0.5) - 3.6 ) + 4 - 4 / (-2 + 2.4)

Do what is inside parentheses first.                Multiply 4.8 x -0.5:  = -2.4

(-2.4 - 3.6 ) + 4 - 4 / (-2 + 2.4)

Next add -2.4 and -3.6  =  -6.0

-6.0 + 4 - 4 / (-2 + 2.4)

Next, work inside the parentheses and add -2 + 2.4  =  0.4

-6 + 4 - 4 / .4

You must do multiplication and division before you do additions and subtractions                                           so you need to solve  - 4 / .4  =  -10

-6 + 4 - 10
