The square root of 10 is the same as 10^^1/2

So the problem would be rewritten as:

10^^1/2 * 10^⁴

When you multiply exponents with the same base, you add their powers together:

= 10^^{1/2 + 4}

= 10^^9/2

-7x=42

Divide each side by -7 to get x:

-7x/-7 = 42/-7

x = -6

On the site calculator (and just about any calculator) the carrot sign that you used "^" would suffice for the power button.
